J Lo and Steven Tyler leave Idol

News broke last week that Jennifer Lopez was pondering on her return for another season of American Idol as a judge.

Just hours later.. Steven Tyler officially stepped down as judge.

“After some long…hard…thoughts…I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress American Idol before she boils my rabbit,” Tyler said in a statement. “I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I’m back.”

Jennifer Lopez confirmed that she was not returning as well, a day later.

American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show this morning that because of the press it is not “helping negotiations with anybody so now we’ve got our work cut out for us.

Lythgoe also said, “They’ve got much bigger careers than just sitting judging Idol,” he said. “They’re both very talented people and you have to respect their decision to carry on and do what they were doing before Idol. It breaks my heart, because I love them both dearly.”

Names that have been thrown around in the last week for possible judges for next season were Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus, Adam Lambert, Fergie, will.i.am, Katy Perry, and Nicki Minaj.
